“A revolutionary life: Ruth First 1925 – 1982”, 7 June 2012

Radical historian, feminist, anti-apartheid activist, groundbreaking journalist, and fashion icon: Ruth First is my hero. So I’m ridiculously pleased and excited to announce that a commemoration of her life and work will take place at Senate House on 7 June 2012. Organised by the Institute of Commonwealth Studies (University of London) and the Commonwealth Advisory Bureau, attendees will include Justice Albie Sachs, Ruth’s daughter Gillian Slovo, and Bridget O’Laughlin.

You can register here: £10 (£5 unwaged), including lunch and wine reception.

Ruth First’s notes and letters are in the process of being digitized, which you can read about here. Having spent quite a long time going through them for my own research, I can confirm that they are well worth the effort.
